Surgical-only practices, IV-only lounges, day spas, salons and esthetician-only studios were excluded. The cohort averages a 4.7 Google rating, with 7 practices holding a 5.0 rating. Who is legally authorized to inject Botox and dermal fillers in Louisiana?

These are board statements, not statutes. The Board of Nursing's declaratory statement, adopted March 2, 2011, says an appropriately trained and qualified RN may perform Botox or similar FDA approved products for cosmetic purposes as ordered by a duly licensed prescriber for treatment of dermatologic conditions, and that RN scope excludes all dermal fillers. It applies only to nurses with documented training in a setting with a written policy, and the physician or NP must be physically present on the premises and immediately available. Nurse practitioners have separate conditions, including national certification and an approved collaborative practice agreement. The Board of Practical Nurse Examiners' practice opinion dated June 18, 2010 says cosmetic Botox is within LPN scope only after a Louisiana licensed physician's exam and under that physician's immediate personal supervision. The Board of Medical Examiners' position statement, revised November 13, 2001, says laser or chemical treatments are the practice of medicine and non-physicians may perform them only under direct physician supervision; it does not name Botox.

How can I verify a New Orleans injector's professional license?

The Board of Medical Examiners says an official statement of a licensee's status may be viewed and downloaded at no cost through its online verification. It says that if no issue date is listed on the verification page, the individual is not licensed in Louisiana. Board orders, consent decrees and reprimands are public records found by selecting Disciplinary Actions and searching by licensee name. For an RN or APRN, the Board of Nursing's licensure verification page links to a license lookup that can be searched by name, license number or NCSBN ID. For an LPN, the practical nurse board points to Nursys, a national database for verification of nurse licensure, including its Quick Confirm search. Ask your provider for their full name and license type before treatment.
