Med spa questions in Albuquerque

How many medical spas does Albuquerque have on this register, and how were they selected?

The Albuquerque section includes 18 medical spas. They were found through Google Maps searches for medical spa, med spa, Botox and aesthetics practices in Albuquerque (October 2026). Each practice's own website was checked for medical aesthetic services and a named clinician or medical oversight, and a reviewed photo of the current location was required. Surgical-only practices, IV-only lounges, day spas, salons and esthetician-only studios were excluded. The cohort averages a 4.9 Google rating, with 7 practices holding a 5.0 rating. Listings are ordered using confidence-weighted ratings that balance star rating against review volume. No practice paid for placement on this register.

Who is legally authorized to inject Botox and dermal fillers in New Mexico?

The New Mexico Medical Board's Medical Spa Policy, revised September 26, 2025, is a board policy document, not a statute or rule. It says any injection or tissue-penetrating procedure, with Botox and fillers given as examples, must be performed by a licensed medical provider (MD, DO, APRN or PA), and that delegation to medical assistants, estheticians or cosmetologists is prohibited. The policy lists the medical director's responsibilities as including being physically present or readily available during procedures. Separately, rule 16.10.13 NMAC says injecting cosmetic or aesthetic substances is the practice of medicine and shall not be delegated to medical assistants, and that a certified medical assistant may use a cosmetic device only when the supervising physician is immediately available on the premises. The Board of Nursing's rule, 16.12.2 NMAC, says LPNs may not provide aesthetic injections, and the policy's list of who may inject does not mention RNs.

How can I verify an Albuquerque injector's professional license?

The Medical Board lists a Licensee Lookup on its website, and it describes its role as licensing physicians and physician assistants, among others. The Board of Nursing's License / Certification Verification Portal can be searched by name, license number or NCSBN ID, and its license types include RN, LPN and APRN-CNP. The Regulation and Licensing Department also runs a Boards and Commissions license lookup, which says to select the profession you wish to search first. The Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists lists estheticians among the license types it regulates. Ask your provider for their full name and license type before treatment.
